The Barbados Christian Council (BEC) has organised a National Day of Prayer in a bid to address the recent rise in violence in the country’s schools.

It is at the request of the Ministry of Education and will take place next Tuesday, March 27.

In a release, BEC chairman Canon Noel Burke said it was important to recognise that the recent phenomenon was a symptom of wider societal issues and no one child or school should be targeted with any adverse scrutiny.

Various denominations are being urged to adopt one of the 130 public and private nursery, primary and secondary schools around Barbados for morning assembly that day.

In addition, all churches are asked to remain open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. where possible. (DB/PR)
