The re-enactment of the 14 Stations of the Cross continues to be a significant event for the Spiritual Baptist Church on Good Friday.
This afternoon, church members with flags and crosses in hand, led a procession through Bridgetown and several nearby districts, before making their way back to the Zion Apostolic Church, Richmond, where they started the yearly trek.
On what is noted as perhaps the most solemn day for Christians, the members of the church held a short service at each of the 14 stations and shared the significance of Jesus Christ, his life and his crucifixion’s significance to the church.
Archdeacon Wilbert Walrond said Good Friday was a call on the members of the church to remember the Lord and saviour who took the path thousands of years ago.
“Today, Good Friday is highlighted on the Christian calendar as a very special time for the servants of God,” he said.
The “stations” consist of the 14 trials or events Jesus encountered on His journey to Calvary, where He was crucified.
The procession went through Pickwick Gap, New Orleans, which was their first station, then continued to Independence Square, Nelson Street Bellville, Tudor Bridge, Grazettes, Deacons, Goodland and back to the church. (LK)
