What was supposed to be a ten-week roadworks project has become a nightmare for some of the residents of Flagstaff, St Michael.
The Ministry of Transport and Works, under their road rehabilitation and upgrade programme, contracted Brathwaite’s Construction & Transport Services Limited to repave the roads and clean and drain wells and catchments in that district.
The programme, which started on January 23, has not been completed and residents said they were more than disappointed about the broken promise.
Eighty-six-year-old Reginald Wooding said: “A night someone dropped in one the holes and I bound up from next to my wife quick ’cause I thought someone was trying to break in the house.
“It is ridiculous. They did not fill in the part between my driveway and the kerb and me and my wife had to get stuff and fill it in before one of us fall.”
When contacted, Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley said his ministry had fulfilled its part. He added that when he last heard from the contractor, he was informed that workmen would be back on the job shortly. (SB)
