Animal care and control week April 9 to 14

The Animal Control Unit of the Ministry of Health will mount a public outreach programme next week, under the theme Securing Your Pet, Preventing Injury, as it observes Animal Care and Control Week 2018.

The Unit will set up information booths at a number of business places as well as the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), providing opportunities for dog owners to register their pets and to receive tips on how to care for the animals.

On Monday, April 9 and Tuesday, April 10, the Unit’s team will be at the QEH from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, April 11, the team will be at Emerald City Supermarket, St Philip from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday, April 13 at Massy Supermarket, Holetown, St James, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Popular Supermarket, Kendall Hill, Christ Church will be the venue on Saturday, April 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, World Veterinary Day will be observed on Friday, April 27 and on that date the Animal Control Unit will join the Barbados Veterinary Association at Carter’s, Wildey, St Michael to offer free animal wellness examinations and pet registration.

This event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will also include booths operated by the animal welfare group, Action For Animals Barbados and the animal therapy organisation, Hearts, Home, Paws and Love. (BGIS)
