The Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) just can’t catch a break with their heads of operations.
It looks like the association will be on the hunt for its fifth CEO in eight years after Noel Lynch tendered his resignation for the end of the month just two years into the job.
Sunsport confirmed the news after procuring a copy of the resignation letter, although BCA president Conde Riley denied receiving any such correspondence from Lynch.
In a letter directly addressed to Riley and dated March 31, Lynch informed the BCA boss of his decision to leave the post effective April 30.
“The past two years have been one of the most enlightening and satisfying periods of my professional life,” wrote the 60-year-old, who also serves as vice president of the Athletics Association of Barbados.
“I wish to sincerely thank the board of directors of the association for the opportunity afforded me to make a contribution to the development of our cricket industry and by extension the socioeconomic development fortunes of our country.
“The policies and activities that the BCA undertakes daily are necessary and serious work in a country that is so much in need of sound, progressive and novel development options to further national progress. Please keep up the outstanding work,” he added.
It’s the fourth time in less than a decade that a CEO has left the BCA early in his tenure. Roland Toppin resigned three years into the job back in 2010.
Toppin’s successor Michael Browne was sacked 13 months into a three-year contract although he tried to term it as a “parting of ways”.
But the office really made the news in 2014 when the BCA and Jefferson Miller agreed to part ways following reports that Miller was convicted for grand theft in the United States.
A source close to the situation said Lynch is preparing to hit the campaign trail for the Barbados Labour Party and did not wish to “politicise” the BCA.
Both the comments from the source and Lynch’s remarks in the letter appear to refute reports in other media outlets that the CEO did not get along with BCA directors and staffers.
A former Minister of Tourism from 1999 to 2008, Lynch won the St Michael South seat for the BLP in 1999 and 2003.
Lynch isn’t slated to contest the seat again, as Kirk Humphrey has been selected as the BLP’s candidate to oppose Prime Minister Freundel Stuart. (JM)
