Over 60 established and fledgling film producers took part in the recently concluded Barbados Cultural Industries Development Authority’s (BCIDA) Joint Training Workshop Series.

The workshops, which the organisers labelled a success, began last month, and sessions were held on screenwriting, sound and lighting, all well subscribed.

At least 20 people took part in each of the interactive sessions, held at Building 2, Harbour Industrial Estate. The series was held in collaboration with the Barbados Film Commission, which falls under the BCIDA and the Barbados Investment & Development Corporation (BIDC).

“It was very pleasing to see the interest,” said film commissioner Annette Nias.

Organisers had looked at the possibility of hosting another workshop due to high participation.

“One of the reasons for doing this is to build capacity. They are at different stages of writing and development, but by the time they leave here, they will all move from one end to the other, so we will get better screenplays in the future,” she said.

Barbadian film-maker Rommel Hall, Trinidadian Cedric Smart, as well as Roger Moore and Sanna Allsopp, owners and directors of Parachute Film Studios of Barbados, were presenters. (TG)
