Young artists rubbed shoulders with the veterans at the official opening of the 2018 Crop Over Arts Exhibition at the Barbados Arts Council’s Gallery at Pelican Village last week.

Over 25 artists are participating in the annual exhibition which showcases more than 60 paintings, among them the work of the late Hubert Brathwaite, whose son Hubert Jr collected his father’s post-humous award presented by the National Cultural Foundation. Brathwaite Sr once mounted a one-man show at the same gallery.

Senior cultural policy officer in the Ministry of Creative Economy, Culture and Sports, Sheron Johnson, standing in for Minister John King, delivered the remarks King had prepared for the occasion. Among the noted artists in attendance were Denise Menard-Greenidge, Virgil Broodhagen and president of the Barbados Arts Council, Neville Legal.

The exhibition runs for the duration of the Crop Over Festival. (GC)
