ABOUT 700 OZONE CUSTOMERS are without service after Cable & Wireless abruptly pulled the plug last Friday.
And with the telecommunications giant refusing to budge until it is paid $1.5 million owed for use of its network, Ozone has taken its case to the Fair Trading Commission (FTC).
In a media release yesterday, Ozone said “Cable & Wireless disconnected all local services to Ozone” and users connected to stations at Mount Wilton, Cliff, Boarded Hall, Waterford, Breedy Land, Staple Grove, Airport, Blades Hill, Broadley, Lowlands and surrounding areas “would have immediately noticed a reduction in service”.
Ozone said it was working around the clock with potential investors and the FTC to address the challenge.
In a telephone interview, chief executive officer Dr Nick Kelly candidly stated that Ozone had not paid its bills.
“We tried to negotiate with them, to offer them, like any other creditors, a payment plan to pay them what we owe them over the next three years and they flatly refused,” he said.
Sixty per cent of the Ozone network, representing 1 350 customers, is still connected on the back-up offered by Digicel. (SAT)
