Mould, animal droppings and rodents are among the broad spectrum of environmental issues plaguing some of the nation’s schools.
Poor security, especially at the primary level, is another issue the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) wants addressed, says president Sean Spencer.
“Mould is very problematic,” he said in an interview with the NATION on Wednesday.
“In the older structures – many of which are really old church schools as we would call them under the old dispensation – many of them are not adequately maintained to the extent that the moisture within the coral stone blocks lends very favourably to the development of mould and mildew. And to treat that by painting it doesn’t really anything but cosmetics.” (SAT)
