Bees head north for talk

Members of the ruling Barbados Labour Party (BLP) have dismissed reports of discord leading to a retreat at a quiet rural location miles from headquarters in The City.

On Thursday afternoon, The Nation was reliably informed that the parliamentary group was summoned to a “retreat” at a plantation house in St Lucy.

When the news team arrived, there was little activity outside, but several vehicles lined the grounds of the secluded property while marked and unmarked police vehicles and members of the Tactical Response Unit patrolled the area.

Parliamentarians arrived from around 11 a.m., and about 4 p.m., Christ Church South Member of Parliament and backbencher Ralph Thorne was the last to show.

Police officers repeatedly demanded that the team leave the public road because they were “carrying out an operation”. About two hours later, BLP chairman George Payne and general secretary, Senator Jerome Walcott, approached the news team, insisting there was nothing-strange taking place. (SDB Media)
