Days after workers in the judicial system were warned to brace for more job cuts in the Registration Department, the severing of a cashier brought the revenue receiving arm of the District “A” Magistrates’ Court to a standstill yesterday.
The retrenchments have also touched the Holetown Magistrates’ Court but did not affect its ability to hold proceedings.
On Monday, Registrar of the Supreme Court Barbara Cooke-Alleyne met with staff and informed them more cuts would be coming.
It was on Wednesday that the last remaining cashier in the office at the District “A” Court complex was severed. However, sources said the cashier was not given any letter and was asked to report for work yesterday. The cashier did not.

As a result, a ‘Closed’ sign greeted members of the public who turned up at the District “A” Magistrates’ Court attempting to pay fees or fines as there was no one in the office to take payment. (HLE)
