Rush for cruisers

IT WAS LIKE a feeding frenzy on Sunday.

Thousands of passengers disembarking from four mega cruise ships and scores of taxi drivers jostling to take them into Bridgetown and parts beyond.

This was the scene at the Bridgetown Port and at the Flour Mill, Spring Garden. Three of five ships – the Caribbean Princess, Queen Mary 2 and the Marella Explorer – were berthed at the port, while the Norwegian Dawn was an imposing sight for motorists travelling along Spring Garden. A smaller cruise ship, the Sirena, with 100 passengers, was also docked.

From early yesterday morning, taxi operators lined Princess Alice Highway to the Bridgetown Port and outside ADM Mills on Spring Garden. Minibuses were also being used to ferry visitors from the Spring Garden Highway to the Bridgetown Port or into The City.

Taxi driver Reuben Edwards said there should be no complaints from operators after yesterday. (HLE)
