An eight-hour workday, a flat salary and National Insurance contributions paid by the owners of public service vehicles (PSVs) are some of the proposals put forward by minibus operator Carlos King to stamp out lawlessness.
And it won’t take an increase in bus fare, he said.
“Something different needs to be done,” King declared on Tuesday.
And while Morris Lee, veteran operator and head of one of the associations in the sector, has agreed with some of the proposals in theory, he said they could not be done on the current fare structure under which minibuses and route taxis operate.
“I would love to see that kind of environment but my response to that is that everything that makes sense doesn’t make money,” Lee said.
King, a public service vehicle driver, told THE NATION he had spent much time agonising over the plans he would like to see implemented by Errol Barrow Day next month. (HLE)
