Fast rising-triathlete Matthew Wright thinks that the major problem surrounding the sport is the absence of a top coach.
“The biggest thing we are lacking in Barbados is high-level coaching for the triathlon and high-level racing opportunities, for the kids. Being in England there are a lot more coaching opportunities so I would love to be able to change that,” said Wright, who has been passing on his knowledge during a triathlon camp at the Aquatic Centre.
“I have been lucky enough to train in a lot of high-performance environments throughout the world with some of the best triathlon coaches, so I just want to pass on my knowledge in this fun way. As the parents say, it would keep them away from sitting and playing games all day and develop the youth through sport.
“The president of swimming (Tony Selby) got in touch over the summer and I have been working with the CARIFTA team to get them ready for the championships in Tobago; he asked me, since it was Christmas and I wasn’t training as much, to put on some camps for the kids,” he said. (RG)
