Gandalf, Infrared in Boxing Day thriller

Expect unforgettable moments on Wednesday at the Garrison Savannah when the best of the best go head to head to sign off the 2018 racing calendar year in breathtaking fashion.

Young lion Gandalf, trained by Victor Cheeseman, who thoroughly bamboozled the top class last appearance, will today seek to add the pattern Diamonds International/Crown of Light Boxing Day Stakes and Trophy over 1 570 metres.

It is a keenly anticipated rematch on Diamonds International/Crown of Light Boxing Day at the Races Raceday card between the Bills Inc. owned Gandalf and veteran Infrared. The latter found the flames too hot with Gandalf and was forced to beat a retreat in the John B. Simpson Classic.

Many are of the view that Gandalf won that race because of his 17 pounds weight advantage received from Infrared. But what about Gandalf’s immaturity? He definitely displayed not only whispering speed but looked the matured one out of today’s rivals, Infrared, Celestial Storm, Marcus Antonius and Refire. (LY)
