Barbados’ top jockey Patrick Husbands is hoping to be back in the saddle sooner than expected – as early as next month.
Six weeks after the region’s most decorated champion suffered what seemed to be a career threatening injury, the road to recovery has been speedy.
And it’s welcomed news for local horse racing fans who feared the worst early last month, when the 45-year-old legendary rider was forced to miss the remainder of the season at the Woodbine race track in Canada, after he was unseated by three-year-old filly Islay Inlet in the parade ring causing a broken pelvis.
However, Husbands is not only satisfied with a quick return to action which he expects to take place by late January. He is anticipating being in the gates for Barbados’ biggest horse race in the Sandy Lane Gold Cup set for the first Saturday in March. (AGB)
