Marshall on the move

Less than 12 hours after his portfolio was increased the minister who now has responsibility for the police force has hit the ground running.

Attorney General Dale Marshall spent yesterday afternoon being briefed about the “minutiae of law enforcement” and the “crime situation” after responsibility for the Royal Barbados Police Force, the preservation of public order, the Forensic Sciences Centre, the Criminal Justice Research Unit and the Police Complaints Authority were shifted from Minister of Home Affairs Edmund Hinkson to him on Thursday night. The changes were effective immediately.

Marshall, who was attending the swearing in of Mr Justice Andrew Burgess as a judge on the Caribbean Court of Justice, refused to be baited into answering any questions about the reassignment.

However, he told members of the media: “[Today] I am going to be on the road with the Police High Command and some other individuals. I am going to be at a briefing today [yesterday] on all of the minutiae of law enforcement and the crime situation and after that I think I could make a more useful comment to the press.” (HLE)
