The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) did all in its power to resolve the Six Men’s squatters saga.
So said Haynesley Benn, the man who ran on a DLP ticket twice in the St Peter constituency against his cousin, former Prime Minister Owen Arthur.
He was responding to last week’s article in the Sunday Sun which highlighted the plight of the Broomes’ family, owners of the expansive Six Men’s estate, who have been engaged in a 20-year battle with Government over attempts to acquire some of their land for squatters.
Benn said the DLP did not take a “hands off attitude” to the situation as was reported, but made a firm offer to purchase 27 acres of the 240-acre plantation. (MB)
