Nursing personnel, comprising nurses, nursing assistants and nursing auxiliaries, are being advised to pay their registration and enrolment fees by the end of February to avoid being struck off the roll.

A statement from the Nursing Council today reminded the nursing professionals that registration fees for nurses and enrolment fees for nursing assistants and nursing auxiliaries were due at the end of January.

However, there is a grace period for one month from the date that the fee is due. Any person who fails to pay the required fee within that period is deemed to be not registered or enrolled.

As set out in the Nurses (Registration Fees) Regulations, the fees, which are payable every two years, are for nurses BDS$150, nursing assistants $50, and nursing auxiliaries $40.

However, the Act states that anyone who misses the January 31 deadline must now pay double the original fee to be registered.

Anyone discovered practising illegally will face the penalty as outlined in the Nurses Act for fraudulent representation or declaration of registration, which is a fine of $5,000, or three months’ imprisonment, or both. (BGIS)
