The backlog of claims at the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) is finally being cleared.
Government says 11 027 or 41 per cent of the outstanding claims were settled in the last three months.
At the same time, $12.7 million was paid to 453 claimants since the new board assumed office last July – including $5.07 million paid to 100 former workers at the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation and 22 at the Transport Board last December.
The outstanding claims relate to contributory and non-contributory pensions, invalidity, sickness, disability, disablement, survivor/death, retirement, maternity, unemployment, severance, employment injury, medical/travel for employment injury and funeral grants. (SP)
