Barbados’ hope of gaining a spot in the men’s plate final of the Rugby Americas North Under-19 Tournament tomorrow has been crushed.

During a delayed match-up against the more experienced Cayman Islands yesterday at Bellevue Plantation in Waterford, St Michael, they were beaten 24-3 following four exceptional tries by the visiting team. Barbados’ three points came through a drop kick by Deandre Phillips.

Coach Dario Stoute told the Saturday Sun although the team was unable to make the cut, he was pleased with some of their manoeuvres.

The women struggled on Day 2 of the competition, losing to powerful Mexico 5-38. Mexico had seven tries while the host country got just one and it came from Karen Holmes.

Barbados also suffered a 7-36 defeat at the hands of Jamaica, however, women’s coach Martin Varga said he thought the team performed exceptionally.  (RG)
