Chelsea Tuach showed her world class in surfing yesterday with a regal advancement to today’s second round of the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru.

Competing in heat 8, the number 9 surfer in the world threw down the gauntlet as Tuach left Isabella Gomez of Colombia in her foam to face Peru’s number one Daniella Rosas today at 11.40.

With biting winds and chilly waters racing towards a shoreline of massive rocks, Tuach showed no discomfort as she had been readying since six in the morning for the 1.40 battle in the inaugural surfing competition at the Pan Am Games.

Tuach started with priority to surf the first wave scoring a 5.5 with Gomez wiping out to drop behind early with a 2.67. However, both surfers then struggled to find consistent waves with Tuach showing obvious disappointment with the offerings.  Even so, Tuach kept ahead of her opponent in points. (KB)
