Barbadian Nicky Neckles has set a second world record at the FINA World Masters Championships in South Korea.
The 40-year-old three-time Olympian won gold in the men’s 100 metres backstroke in the 40-44 age-group on Friday, clocking a time of 58.45 seconds to erase the previous mark of 59.08 seconds.
Maurizio Tersar of Italy took second in 1:00.31 while Ioan Gherghel of Romania was third in 1:00.71.
Neckles’ second gold medal followed a record-breaking performance in the men’s 200 metres backstroke last Monday when he recorded a time of 2:08.06, way below the old record of 2:11.13.
Earlier this year, Neckles came out of a seven-year retirement to set a world masters record in the 200 metres backstroke with a time of 2:09.08 minutes at the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships (CCCAN) at the Aquatic Centre while qualifying for the World Masters Championships.
