HIGHLY-RATED Barbadian surfer Chelsea Tuach has had a dream run at the prestigious Pantín Pro Classic in Galicia, Spain.

She finished third overall at the highest rated event for women, a World Surf League (WSL) Qualification Series (QS) 10 000 event which featured 60 of the world’s best professional surfers.

Tuach’s fluid, powerful, backside surfing was impressive all event long and saw her progress through four rounds of competition to the quarter-finals where she met standout surfer from California, Sage Erikson, who is the No.2 rated surfer on the WSL QS.

Conditions were tough with the low tide causing long lulls in the action, but Tuach found a beautiful left-hander on which she belted five powerful, vertical turns for a 7.33. She then quickly backed this up with a 5.17 to triumph with a heat total of 12.50 to Erickson’s 9.03.

Tuach then faced Japanese surfer, Armuro Tsuzuko in the semi-finals and was not as lucky in finding waves and just missed out on the final.
