A package containing an unknown substance forced the evacuation of the Hastings Police Station earlier today.

Around 2:43 p.m., a woman brought a package to the Christ Church station to report that it had been sent to her.

In keeping with protocol on dealing with hazardous materials, all personnel were instructed to evacuate to the nearby Brigade House.

Traffic travelling south-east along Hastings Main Road in the area of the station was diverted at Garrison Road, while those travelling towards Bridgetown were diverted at Harts Gap.

This traffic diversion has since been lifted and the roadway has been reopened to the general public. (PR)
