Lloyd Brathwaite, managing director of  the automotive repair business, Trans-Tech Inc., said he was “taken by surprise” when he was shown invoices that revealed his company had been paid close to $130 000 twice by the Transport Board for the same job.

He was in the hot seat yesterday as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) started its investigations into a special report by Auditor General Leigh Trotman, which revealed that on four occasions between 2015 and 2018, the Transport Board was charged twice for the same work done on the same bus by Trans-Tech.

This led to it paying out $257 149.08, which was $128 574.54 more than was due.

In the hour-long session, which took place in the Senate Chamber, Brathwaite said his company had already taken steps to resolve the financial irregularity which, he stated, he only became aware of a few months ago when he was summoned to a meeting at the Transport Board. (MB)
