Opposition Senator Crystal Drakes is questioning why homeowners have to pay land tax.
In the last debate before the Senate Chamber broke for the Christmas recess yesterday, Drakes said that the imposition of the tax was almost punitive for those who aspire to the Barbados dream of owning a “piece of the rock”.
The debate in the Upper Chamber centred around the Land Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which Drakes said was non-contentious and sought to balance the scale on the issue of land tax.
However, she questioned why the Government was collecting taxes on something that an individual owned and maintained. (AC)
