Visitors want SOS phone

An English couple, distressed after witnessing the panicked efforts to save two brothers who got into difficulty on Sandy Lane Beach, is willing to start a fund to put an SOS telephone there.

Ray and Lyn Sallows also lamented the lack of lifeguards trained in CPR and lookout towers for the expanse of beach where the international VIPs, celebrities and the wealthy hang out.

The Sallows have been coming to Barbados for about 20 years and Sandy Lane Beach is a favourite of theirs. But on Boxing Day two young brothers nearly drowned and the incident has marred the couple’s vacation and impression of the area.

They are willing to start a fund with US$200 to get an SOS telephone installed in the area that would bring relief to the hundreds who use the beach daily. (AC)
