All systems are go for teachers to use the new technology to mark attendance at school.
This was revealed by Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw last night following a four-hour meeting with the executive of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) at the ministry’s Constitution Road, St Michael headquarters.
Following a memo, which had been circulated on December 5 to all public schools from Acting Chief Education Officer Joy Adamson, informing teachers they were to utilise the attendance module of the OpenEMIS (Open Education Management Information System) effective January 6, 2020, members of the BSTU and the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) had taken the stance that they would not be using the programme to register both the teachers and students’ daily attendance.
“The good news is that the unions, in particular the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union, have embraced the revolution in our system of technology in education,” Bradshaw told the media after 7 p.m. (RA)
