Democratic Labour Party (DLP) members have been urged by leader Verla De Peiza to stand up in defence of the organisation.

In a call to arms of sorts, De Peiza said while delivering the Errol Barrow Memorial Centenary Lecture titled Re-imagining A Different Barbados, at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus’ Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination on Thursday night, that she hoped the “notion of the irrelevance of the Democratic Labour Party is dispelled”.

“Its philosophy and principles remain as relevant today as 63 years ago when first established. But the 21st Century application depends on us, having stumbled as a nation, regaining our footing and making bold steps towards restoring our balance and prosperity,” De Peiza said.

And, in urging people to get involved in the growth of Barbados in its matured years, the DLP president stressed that while the party had been laughed at in previous years for promoting the fact that the country was more than an economy, she reimagined a Barbados “where people once again form the nucleus of development”.
