The 6 p.m. curfew announced for today has been extended to 8 p.m.

Acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw made this announcement moments ago on Down To Brasstacks after consultation with Attorney General Dale Marshall and stakeholders.

This extension of the curfew is in response to thousands of people who rushed to supermarkets today to stock up on supplies and resulting reports of chaos in some places.

While there was concern of clustering at some places, Marshall said he observed customers at some supermarkets who were observing the rules of physical distancing.

Officials said the extension of the curfew to now begin at 8 p.m. is to give supermarkets a chance to wrap up their operations and allow staff a chance to reach home by 8 p.m.

The latest restrictions were announced as part of efforts to limit spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
