There is no shortage of biodegradable bags in Barbados, says Minister of Maritime Affairs Kirk Humphrey.
While making it clear that Government’s focus was on fighting the coronavirus (COVID-19), he suggested retailers should not fear that there was an inadequate supply of these alternatives.
“All of the local manufacturers are making the biodegradable plastic bags and supplying the supermarkets and other places. [So] there’s no shortage of biodegradable bags on the island and no shortage of local suppliers producing them,” Humphrey said.
The ban on all petroleum-based plastic bags was postponed from January to give manufacturers more time to produce more alternatives. (TG)
