Jump in Jamaica’s COVID-19 cases

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica has recorded another 20 coronavirus cases in less than 24 hours.

 As a result, the country now has 125 confirmed cases.

According to the National Influenza Centre, the 20 additional cases include five males and 15 females, with ages ranging from two to 43 years.

Two cases are imported – one being the two-year-old child from the western parish of St James, the other is a 43-year-old female from St Catherine.

The other 18 individuals are from St Catherine. They all worked at a call center in the parish, from which other cases were confirmed on Tuesday.

This brings to 52 the number of confirmed cases working at the Alorica call centre.

The age range of infected persons who worked at the facility is from 18 to 34 years. 

They include 41 females and 11 males.

Of this number, 47 are from St Catherine, two from the Corporate Area and one from the eastern parish of Portland. 

The Health Department is currently in the process of tracking approximately 432 close contacts of the confirmed cases.

The National Influenza centre has also advised that to date, 1 391 samples have been tested including those for Severe Respiratory Infections, resulting in 1 258 negative and 125 positive, with eight samples pending. (CMC)
