Four houses ranging from timber to timber and stone were affected by fire in the densely populated Peterkin Land, St Michael today.
One of the affected homeowners Dale Maughn said he and his wife were unable to save any of their possessions. He said he was practically asleep when his wife called out to him.
“I was having a rest and my wife just call me and tell me Dale, fire . . . and I jump up and I went in the back. I saw a blanket, I pull that out . . . but the fire just spread fast and we just exit,” he said.
Maughn said the home was insured.
Three fire tenders and 13 personnel under the leadership of Divisional Officer Ernle Fields responded to the fire.
According to Fields, one house was extensively damaged, while the other three had minor damage. Six people were affected by the fire.
The Barbados Fire Service received the call about the fire about 11:45 a.m. and the first tender arrived at the scene 11:55 a.m., Fields said. (KG)
