A group of community-minded people got together today to distribute supplies to residents who have suffered setbacks as a result of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Led by Shon “Flickster” Cummins, the team, which included entertainers Anderson “Mr Blood” Armstrong and Peter Ram, went to Rock Hall, St Philip.

Cummins pointed out that supplies were donated mainly by individuals and not companies. He also wanted Barbadians to realise how many people were suffering.

“When you hear about needy people you think of somebody in an old house, but with this pandemic, people have lost their jobs and those who were living pay cheque to pay cheque now can’t pay their bills. We all need to come together and work for the betterment of Barbados,” he said.

One grateful resident said: “I don’t know wunna . . . but, believe me, from my toes, my heart, my head, everything, I am so thankful.”

In addition to the usual groceries and toiletries, however, there is a plan to distribute supplies for affected people to engage in a type of “Help Yourself Programme”, with a view to providing employment. (CA)
