Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw has defended Government’s decision to make the wearing of masks in classrooms optional.

She, however, stressed that it was mandatory for students to wear them during their commute to school.

On June 17, Acting Chief Education Officer, Joy Adamson, made that announcement after there were concerns about the length of time students were expected to keep on the masks.

That announcement, however, was criticised by president of the Barbados Secondary Schools Teachers Union Mary Redman who told VOB’s Getting Down to Brass Tacks radio programme that the decision was unilateral. (TG)
