Trinidadian journalists extend sympathy

The following is a tribute from the Media Association of Trinidad and Tobago (MATT) after the death of Nation photographer Christoff Griffith.

“We share the shock and heartbreak of our brother and sister journalists across the Caribbean, and especially in Barbados, over the slaying of a true and youthful member, Christoff Griffith.

The 25-year-old photojournalist was killed in the line of duty [Monday] morning responding to reports of the chopping death of Glenroy James . . . reportedly by a homeless man.

From all accounts, Mr Griffith was a respectful, committed and competitive journalist whose work featured optimism for the tomorrow of Caribbean news media.

MATT receives the news of his death, gathered and written by his friends, with deep sadness and apprehension. We, like his newsroom colleagues at the Nation and previously Barbados Today, know it could have been any one of us.

We can but share the grief of our regional journalism family, the family of Glenroy James and the loved ones of our colleague Christoff Griffith.

Mr Griffith is the 26th journalist killed in the line of duty for 2020, according to UNESCO’s Global Observatory of Killed Journalists.” (PR)
