Only public service vehicles (PSV) and the Transport Board will be picking up passengers from July 1, as the agreement with private coaches (BTs and ZMs) in the Transport Augmentation Programme (TAP) ends June 30.
The announcement was made by Minister of Transport, Works and Maintenance Dr William Duguid, during a press conference on June 29 at the top of Forde’s Road, St Michael, where Government is installing a turning lane for motorists.
“They have been a tremendous help and the Transport Augmentation Programme has really been a success story, not only in terms of transporting people but also in terms of empowering people. We were able to bring on people who worked at the Transport Board as drivers, and they were able to source buses, get a loan for those buses and join the [TAP] and they’re working very well. I am very happy to have been associated with that programme,” he said.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Government brought in the coaches to make up for the shortfall, as PSVs could only operate at 60 per cent capacity. However, the PSVs will now be at full capacity. (RA)
