Sports bodies have been assured they can return to competition following the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown with some degree of safety once they implement suitable protocols outlined by the Ministry of Health and Wellness as well as international health groups.

That advice was given by COVID Czar Richard Carter at a briefing with more than 100 sports administrators, coaches and sportspersons organised by the Barbados Volleyball Association on Thursday at the Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.

Among the presidents were Randy Harris, of the Barbados Football Association; Nisha Craigwell, of the Barbados Netball Association; Kevin Wood, of the Barbados Badminton Association; Kenmore Bynoe, of the Barbados Volleyball Association; and Dale Rudder, of the Table Tennis Association.

Carter, who was a division one volleyball champion, emphasised that sports would have to live with COVID-19 since in spite of all efforts to reduce the dangers, the risks, will be present in the absence of any vaccine. (KB)
