The world’s biggest cruise vessel is in Barbadian waters.
The Symphony of the Seas, which is part of the Royal Caribbean line, arrived this morning to aid in the repatriation of crew.
Nation News understands crews are being transferred to other ships which are anchored offshore. Currently, there are five other ships from the Royal Caribbean line in Barbadian waters and the Independence of the Seas is expected to arrive tomorrow.
Symphony of the Seas can hold 5 518 passengers at double capacity, with a maximum of 6 680 and 2 200 crew.
There are 16 decks for guests use, 22 restaurants, four pools and 2 759 cabins. The on-board facilities include a children’s water park, a full-sized basketball court, an ice-skating rink, a zip line that is ten decks high, and a Broadway-style theatre with seating capacity of 1 401.
There is also an outdoor aquatic theatre with Olympic-height platforms, two 43-foot rock-climbing walls and a park containing over 20 000 tropical plants. One of the cocktail bars features drink preparation by two robot bartenders that can prepare up to two drinks per minute.
Hundreds of cruise workers remain on board ships months into the COVID-19 pandemic and are being repatriated after Barbados indicated it would cooperate with the various cruise lines. Hundreds have already returned home.
The Symphony of the Seas is scheduled to depart at 11 a.m. and return in two weeks. (SAT)
