The final wishes of former Prime Minister Owen Arthur caused some disappointment among the hundreds of people who went to pay their respects yesterday.
People braved sun and rain to reach the Parliament Buildings in The City where the body of the former leader of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) was lying in state.
However, when they were ushered upstairs, they only found a closed casket draped with the Barbados Flag with six almost motionless police and military honour guard.
Some expressed their disappointment at not being able to see Arthur’s face one last time but it turned out that was one of his last wishes.
“Some persons were disappointed they could not see the body but we understand Mr Arthur made certain wishes before he died and the family complied,” said Deputy Clerk of Parliament, Nigel Jones. (CA)
