The Barbados Meteorological Services continues to monitor Tropical Storm Josephine as it moves to the northwest of Barbados.

A bulletin from the Met Office said that at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Josephine was centred near 16.1N 54.7W or about 380 miles or 610 kilometres to the northeast of Barbados.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) and the estimated minimum central pressure is 1006mb.

Its present movement is WNW or 295 degrees at 16 mph (26 km/h).

Josephine is forecast to continue on its west-northwestward track over the next several days. On its current forecast track, the system will pass well north of Barbados on Saturday.

The strongest areas of deep convection associated with Tropical Storm Josephine remain to the north and northwest of the centre as a result of dry air entrainment and the onset vertical wind shear.

Southwesterly wind shear is expected to significantly affect the system’s structure, resulting in weakening after the next 12 to 18 hours.

As a result of its present movement and forecast track, Tropical Storm Josephine is not expected to have any direct impacts on Barbados. This is the final bulletin on Tropical Storm Josephine from the Barbados Meteorological Services. (PR)
