The COVID-19 infections continue to rise.
Public health authorities last night revealed the country recorded 35 new cases from 902 tests on Tuesday, and another 52 positive results from 2 355 tests conducted on Wednesday.
Based on results accumulated over those two days, there are now 641 active cases in the country, as Ministry of Health personnel continue to participate in large-scale contact tracing to get to the bottom of a number of clusters, mostly on the West Coast.
The total number of cases at Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds, as of January 20, was 352 – 94 staff and 258 male inmates.
Barbados has now recorded a total of 1 243 cases since March last year, 593 of whom have since recovered.
Sixty-four people were released from the isolation facility at Harrison Point, St Lucy on Tuesday, and another 24 got their second consecutive negative test Wednesday, allowing them to leave.
The number of deaths remains nine, after two men, one 84, the other 83, presented to the Accident & Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital earlier this week before passing away. They were the first COVID-19 related deaths since last April. (BA)
