Sixty people were released from isolation on Friday, February 5, while there were 20 new positive cases of COVID-19 from 220 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.
There are now 309 active cases in Barbados.
A 75-year-old woman, a former patient of the Geriatric Hospital died from COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the number of deaths from the viral illness to 18.
The 20 new cases identified on Friday comprise nine women and 11 men. Twelve of them were already at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility in St Lucy undergoing assessment to determine whether their positive PCR test result showed that they were in fact newly positive, or if they had COVID in the past and were no longer infectious.
Of the other eight cases, six are Barbadians and two are non-nationals.
The total number of people diagnosed as positive at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds remains at 362. Of these, 358 have recovered and the remaining four inmates are included in the active cases.
To date, Barbados recorded 1 676 confirmed cases – 692 females and 984 males – and 1 349 people recovered.
So far, the public health laboratory completed 106 256 tests. (BGIS)
