The Ministry of Health and Wellness said today that 51 people recovered from coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday, February 6, and 33 new positive cases were recorded.

The new positive cases were identified from the 693 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.  There are now 291 active cases.

Sixteen men and 17 women made up the new cases.  Four of them had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility undergoing assessment to determine whether their positive PCR test result showed that they were in fact newly positive, or whether they had COVID-19 in the past and were no longer infectious.

Of the other 29 cases, there were 26 Barbadians and three non-nationals.

The total number of people diagnosed as positive at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds remains at 362. Of these, 358 have recovered and the remaining four inmates are included in the active cases.

To date, Barbados has recorded 1 709 confirmed cases – 709 females, 1 000 males – and 1 400 people have recovered.  Eighteen people have died from the viral illness.

The public health laboratory has completed 106 949 tests since February 2020. (BGIS)
