Waiting for food was Tao Ivon Best’s excuse for congregating in Vine Street.

However, it has turned out to be an expensive meal for the unemployed man after he was fined $3 000 for the COVID-19 offence when he appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Best, 20, of Hinkson Gap, New Orleans, St Michael, admitted he contravened Paragraph (8), Clause (b) of the Emergency Management Covid-19 Curfew No. 3 Directive 2021 in that there being a directive requiring every person to observe such physical distancing and associated protocols in the interest of public health imposed in the island from February 3 to 17, being a person assembled in a public place – Vine Street, he failed to comply with the physical distancing protocols and every condition specified by the Chief Medical Officer and the Unit on February 8.

Best’s co-accused Kelmar Shacardo Chandler, 21, of Vine Street, The City, pleaded not guilty to the charge. (HLE)
