Melville 111, still riding strong

FORMER MASTER SADDLER Melville Williams continues to enjoy the ride of his long life.

On Sunday he reached the age of 111, a remarkable feat of spanning two centuries.

The Lonesome Hill, St Peter resident has been celebrated almost yearly since reaching his first milestone of becoming a centenarian.

At the age of 100, he was still working as a saddler and made frequent bus trips, but today the supercentenarian is less active and simply enjoys the well-wishes he has been receiving.

On his birthday his family held a Zoom meeting in which he participated. (AC)
