Government has been chided for its delayed response to fully updating the country’s anti-corruption legislation.
The criticism came from internal auditor Krystal Howell, senior lecturer at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cynthia Barrow-Giles, and attorney and UWI lecturer Dr Ronnie Yearwood while exploring the issue during Voice Of Barbados’ Brass Tacks Sunday call-in programme yesterday.
Yearwood said it was ironic that the Barbados Labour Party’s criticism of the Freundel Stuart administration for not proclaiming the Prevention Of Corruption Act, did not lead to the current Government
following through.
“If you go back to 2017, [Attorney General Dale Marshall] made the point of asking the former Government why were they not proclaiming the Prevention Of Corruption Act. It is easy for us to forget. His question was, ‘What are you afraid of, declaring your assets, or could it be that the act would require political parties to talk about financial contributions?’ (TG)
