Ex-Pat Health Help

Dear Helen,

’ve recently moved to Barbados from Britain and I don’t know many people here. I found you through an acquaintance whom I asked about sexual health professionals on island with experience in England. I want to find out how to prepare for intimacy with my partner with my problem of urinary incontinence. Can you help me with that, and do you know any British health professionals here? -HM Dear HM,

I hope you are enjoying your move to such a lovely new home and location.

You don’t say your age, but the Barbados Family Planning Association has several doctors who used to work in the UK. I don’t know of specific general practitioners/family doctors who have UK experience, but I am sure several of them will have worked here at some stage, too.

The British High Commission may be better placed to answer this question for you. They are near Collymore Rock and I’ve always found them to be helpful and friendly.

There is also the British Women’s Club on the island that you could, perhaps, join – or at least ask this question of as well.

There are also many nurses on the island who have UK experience. Again, the above named organisations will know where they are.

I hope this helps. – Helen
