Lady Straker passes

Joyce Lady Straker, wife of Sir Emile Straker, passed away on Sunday evening, surrounded by her family.

Sir Emile was a founding member and front man of the world-renowned Barbadian group, The Merrymen.

A pioneer in her own right, Lady Straker was the first female pilot of Barbados.

She was a successful businesswomen, owning and operating Lady Jane’s boutique and the Banana Boat Restaurant. She and her husband were also the brains behind the Plantation Tropical Spectacular cabaret-style show at the Plantation Garden and Restaurant, which was once featured on CNN.

She is the mother of Dean Straker (Spice and Co), Ray and Stacey-Jane.

Condolences poured in on Dean’s facebook page as news of the passing spread. (SAT)
